Both the coffee shop and restaurant menus are superb with the former offering a wide range of both local and imported strains. When busy, the coffee shop itself can become crowded however the Plug restaurant next door is a very welcome alternative for relaxation and some top quality food. Having visited numerous coffee shops over a period of 20+ years, this has to be noted as one of the friendliest and most welcoming places around. A MUST-HAVE for any serious visitor to the Amsterdam scene, it is the first book ever to profile all 168 coffeeshops in the city, with vivid full-color pictures, detailed descriptions, amenities, and locals/regulars recommendations for the "best of" shops in a variety of categories. This shop is featured in our 368 page Hardcover book CONNOISSEUR GUIDE: AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS. As always, we will continue to keep an eye out to see if they are able to maintain the high quality standards they have set thus far. The quality, particularly of their flower, has been exceptional thus far, warranting The Plug recognition as a connoisseur establishment. They also have pre-rolled joints, and edibles such as muffins and brownies. The hashish side of the menu is much smaller, but has a nice mix of imported and more potent domestic ice-hash (Nederhasj) varieties. They also have a high priced “Special” section for California imports. They carry many contemporary USA genetics too. On the weed-side, you may find as many as two dozen strains. The cannabis menu at The Plug coffeeshop is fairly large. In our experience the atmosphere at The Plug is relaxed, the music chill, and the shop clean and well-maintained. When the weather is nice, this can also be a great spot to chill, take in some sun and fresh air, and watch the local activity. Outside, one will also find a large white picnic table. While this shop can be a bit dark at night, it can be quite bright and open during the day. Large windows in the front allow ample light to enter. In the back is a large bar area for ordering cannabis products, as well as basic refreshments. Soft accent lighting provides a notable “posh pub or nightclub” feel to this coffeeshop, though it admittedly is too small to pack in a crowd. Grab a booth, and you will have ample room to spread out. Seating is in the form of large comfortable leather benches restaurant booth-style. The walls are dark with a modern pattern and texture. The décor has been updated quite a bit since changing ownership. The inside of The Plug has a long lounge area. As it was explained to us, the owner always wanted to have a coffeeshop in Amsterdam. Interestingly, the new owner also runs The Plug cannabis club in Barcelona, which is well known for its connoisseur products. For a long time it was known as Utopia, but changed hands in early 2018. This is one of the newest shops in Amsterdam, technically speaking. It is just a bit south of Centraal Station, towards the west side of the canal ring. Mostly, Yalcin is thrilled to bring a whole new experience to Orange County and give people a different alternative to standard coffee and breakfast spots. The Plug Coffeeshop is found on the busy street of Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal (“New Side Front Bastion Wall”). Yalcin is so excited for this new concept as it has been a vision for years, and believes it will set the standard for how he continues to open new concepts and stores. The idea is to give visitors a different alternative to their usual coffee, breakfast or lunch spot, where they can bring their whole family for a long breakfast while enjoying the atmosphere, each other and the quality service, coffee and delicacies. Breakfast in Europe is a way to experience high quality coffee, food and service with a healthy and fresh twist compared to the classic American breakfast of pancakes and eggs. Yes, there there are coffee shops, places to grab breakfast and hang out, but there aren’t places that allow for a full immersive experience as if you were in Europe at a neighborhood cafe, and Yalcin has successfully executed that ideation. The idea behind Utopia European Caffé comes from the lack of European inspired cafes in Orange County. Since then Yalcin has successfully opened four locations of DönerG across OC, and now the new Utopia Euro Caffé in Tustin. Yalcin began his journey as a restaurateur eight years ago after taking completing his business degree at Cal State Fullerton. Picture a quaint cafe corner where guests come to indulge in treats, coffee and tea in the heart of Orange County. A new European inspired cafe is has arrived at The District at Tustin and the mastermind behind DönerG is creating it! Yalcin Aslan conceptualized the idea of a European inspired cafe long ago, and has finally turned that dream into a reality.
