Since it is not a universally known recipe, you’ll find many macchiato variants in cafes. The milk foam does an excellent job smoothing out any rough edges while preserving the entire flavor profile! History of the MacchiatoĪccording to coffee experts, macchiato dates back to the 18th century in italy where it was created to distinguish black espresso from espresso with milk. It is the perfect drink for people who want to taste espresso’s rich and diverse flavors without getting a full punch. It’s also much smaller than other espresso beverages, with a standard serving size of just 1 1/4 ounces (37 ml). They act as a nice middle ground between an espresso and a cappuccino. The espresso macchiato and latte macchiato are the most common varieties, both of which “stain” one component of the milk+espresso duo with the other. The macchiato is a coffee drink with two components: milk and espresso. The amount of milk used is just enough to brighten the color of the coffee while also piercing through its smooth, black surface. It means “marked,” “stained,” or “spotted.” This description refers to the stain left on the milk when combined with the dark, rich espresso. The word macchiato is of Italian origin, just like most espresso drink names. Overall, I still have a wonderful impression of Maeil’s My Cafe line. Would I buy this again: Yes! I hope H-Mart and Ranch 99 keep stocking these. I’m actually not sure if this product has any coffee in it. I like drinking this to start my day while I’m running around my new job! Surely, it’s not the healthiest choice, but it gives me a happy start to my day. Otherwise, I’m left with an awkward amount that I don’t know if I should just chug the rest, pour it down the sink, or save it for later (which I’ll forget I have and then it’ll probably be expired by the time I remember). Also, I only like chocolate milk in small doses. American products tend to lean towards way to sweet for me. Often times, when I buy chocolate milk at stores, the potential flavors are just too variable. Not too sweet, not too bitter, and not too much. In short, this just tastes like a really good chocolate milk. I didn’t take a picture for this drink, because I forgot! If you don’t take a picture of your food and drinks, did you even really eat them? But, luckily, Aaron had one! Price: $1.50 (2 for $3.00) H-Mart’s selection! The chocolate latte is the top left one. I know it was lower sugar, but, somehow, it tasted like lower coffee flavor too? Compared to the Caramel Macchiato and the Nutty Cappuccino, my favorite on from this brand, it definitely doesn’t taste as great. This product is definitely a healthier choice among the other products from Maeil’s My Cafe line. Maybe if they release a salted caramel flavor one day, I’d definitely like to try that. I felt like all the sugar I could have in one day was concentrated into that cup. It was still a decent drink and I finished it, but the caramel flavor really made it feel almost cloyingly sweet. I didn’t really like this flavor compared to the rest. Yet, every time I encounter it, I don’t know what I expected, because I feel a bit disappointed. I guess it kinda made sense, but I definitely felt a little miffed. I was kinda surprised at the price of this at a restaurant vs a grocery store! Literally double the usual price I see. JSJ Spread! The only pic I got of the drink from that night. Who doesn’t love a good promotional discount?! The food was great, and my friend saw they were selling this in their drink section. I got this when I brought my friends to the soft opening of JSJ Kitchen in Cupertino, CA. Price: $3.28 I took this pic at Ranch 99 because I needed one! □ Source: JSJ Street Kitchen ( Cupertino, CA) Cafe Latte (Caramel Macchiato) (1 of 3).(Update: H-Mart San Jose seems to stock Matcha Lattes and Cocoa Lattes again now too.) Flash forward to now, the H-Mart in San Jose and Cupertino only seem to stock Nutty Cappuccino and Mild Lower Sugar flavors. When I first tried Maeil a while back, H-Mart had a good stock on almost all the flavors I just never got around to trying them.
